engro corp names new ceo
Engro Corporation Limited has announced the appointment of Ahsan Zafar Syed as its new President and CEO, effective from April 1, 2024. Currently serving as the CEO of Engro Fertilizers Limited, a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, Syed will take over from Ghias Khan, who will complete his term in April.
With over 30 years of experience in leading multi-billion-dollar projects and businesses in various sectors, including fertilizers, energy, and agri-products, Syed is well-equipped to take on this new role. He has played a crucial part in significant projects such as the construction of EnVen, the world’s largest single-train urea plant for Engro Fertilizers. Additionally, he spearheaded the operations of Pakistan’s largest rice processing facility in Muridke for Engro Eximp Agriproducts.
Syed has also made remarkable contributions to the energy sector as he led Engro’s energy vertical. Under his guidance, the Thar coal power and mining projects have been developed and operated, contributing to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These projects have played a vital role in reducing the country’s reliance on imported fuels.
Syed holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the NED University of Engineering and Technology and a post-graduate degree from the USA. He has also completed executive programs from INSEAD, a renowned business school.
Engro Corporation has expressed confidence that Syed will continue to actively manage the affairs of Engro Fertilizers until a new CEO is appointed by the board of directors.
