pak election 2024: imran khan’s pti becomes leaderless entity according to ecp- republic world
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), the political party founded by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been described as leaderless by the Election Commission of Pakistan. In an updated political party list released by the electoral watchdog, PTI is no longer mentioned as being led by Khan. Instead, the list includes PTI’s faction Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTIP) as a separate political entity, led by Former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak. This comes after PTI lost its electoral symbol, the “bat,” and the nullification of its intra-party poll by the Pakistani electoral watchdog.
The updated roster for the upcoming 2024 Pakistan General Elections consists of 175 officially registered political parties. Other notable entities on the list include Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by President Abdul Aleem Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by Shehbaz Sharif, and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) led by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Additionally, the roster features the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) registered under Asif Ali Zardari’s name, Awami National Party (ANP) led by Asfandyar Wali Khan, Balochistan National Party (BNP) led by Akhtar Mengal, and Jamaat-e-Islami led by Sirajul Haq.
The changes in leadership and factionalization within PTI indicate a shifting political landscape in Pakistan. As the country prepares for the 2024 General Elections, these developments will undoubtedly have an impact on the dynamics and strategies of the various political parties.
