President Alvi Expresses Confidence in Interim Government and Army Leadership
In a recent speech at the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) recognition ceremony, President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed his faith in the current interim government and the military leadership’s ability to lead Pakistan towards economic progress. He highlighted the importance of decision-making in positioning Pakistan on the path to economic stability.
Pursuing Foreign Investment for Economic Growth
President Alvi emphasized that the interim government, along with Chief of the Army Staff, General Asim Munir, is actively pursuing foreign investment in Pakistan through collaborative ventures. The aim is to bolster the country’s economy and tap into its untapped potential.
Recognizing the Role of the Business Community
President Alvi commended the business community for its potential to enhance Pakistan’s economic strength. He encouraged members of REAP to explore joint ventures and focus on value-added rice products. He also praised the “Biryani Festival” and extended an invitation to host the festival at the President’s House.
Reviving Rice Research and Empowering Women in the Workforce
The president stressed the need to revive rice research institutions to capture a larger share of the international market. He suggested a government and REAP partnership to establish market-oriented institutions. President Alvi also highlighted the significant role of women in the workforce and emphasized their employment in companies to empower them and involve them in economic activities.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who was also present at the ceremony, praised rice as the second-largest export of the country. He expressed disappointment that it had not been recognized as an industry yet. Governor Tessori mentioned the Chief of the Army Staff’s efforts in combatting economic challenges and the recent decrease in the value of the dollar. He also noted improvements in the country’s law and order situation.
REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani highlighted the association’s crucial role in Pakistan’s economy and the international recognition of Pakistani rice. He mentioned that Pakistan produces 9 million tonnes of rice annually and exports it to various regions around the world. The chairman urged the president to designate rice as an industry and called for the establishment of a rice research institution to facilitate more opportunities and growth in exports.
