Pakistan suffered a disappointing defeat in a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 game against archrivals India. Despite bowling out India for 119 runs, Pakistan failed to chase down the target of 120 and fell short, ending on 113-7.

The loss adds to Pakistan’s woes, as they had previously been shocked by co-hosts USA. This defeat puts them in danger of being eliminated in the first round of the mega event.

Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment with the result in a video message on X (formerly Twitter). He believed that the Pakistani players lacked intent.

Michael Vaughan, former England skipper, praised the slow wicket at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, calling it one of the best games of the T20 World Cup. However, he noted that Pakistan lacked self-belief, which hindered their performance.

Indian ex-fast bowler Irfan Pathan acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in the game but pointed out their batting weaknesses and poor fielding.

Despite slim chances of qualification for the Super 8 stage, Pakistan still has a glimmer of hope. To secure their spot, they must defeat Ireland and Canada with significant margins to boost their run rate. Additionally, they will need Ireland and India to defeat the USA.
