Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], January 7 (ANI): The police on Thursday seized 78 quintals of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice, which was being illegally transported in a truck near Buland Pravas Colony, Kalaburagi.

Police on Wednesday busted a major racket and recovered 445 quintals rice, worth Rs 7.56 lakh, which was disrtibuted for free to the economically-weaker sections or provided at subsidized rate during the pandemic. The racketeers were ferrying the rice to mills in Gondia for polishing it and selling at higher rates through upmarket outlets.

Bhola Singh and Suresh Tiwari, both paddy growing farmers of Rohtas district of Bihar, have been worried over slow paddy procurement by government agencies in the last 50 days.

MSP (minimum support price) is a major demand from farmers for their produce across the country. This ensures a decent and minimum price for agriculture produce regardless of market forces controlled by middlemen.
