Belarusian President to Visit Pakistan for Trade and Economic Agreements

Islamabad: Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan, Andrei Metelitsa, has announced that President Aleksandr Lukashenko will visit Pakistan in the near future to sign multiple trade and economic agreements. This visit aims to strengthen the existing partnership between the two countries, according to a press release.

During a meeting at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Ambassador Metelitsa highlighted that the current bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Belarus stands at $60 million, but there is significant untapped potential for further growth. He mentioned that Belarus exports heavy machinery, fertilizers, agriculture equipment, synthetic filament tow, chemicals, and malt extract to Pakistan. In return, they import textiles, rice, citrus, leather apparel, leather footwear, and medical instruments.

The ambassador acknowledged the important role that Chamber Houses play in promoting international ties and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the ICCI in identifying Belarusian and Pakistani businessmen with similar interests.

President of the ICCI, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, emphasized the significance of Belarus as an Eastern European country and stressed the necessity of a Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan and Belarus. He suggested that exchanging business delegations would help to explore the untapped potential for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. President Bakhtawari also proposed leading a delegation from the ICCI to Belarus.

Various members from the ICCI, including Secretary General of the United Business Group Zafar Bakhtawari, Chairman Founder Group Khalid Iqbal Malik, and executive members Sheikh Mohammad Ejaz, Ch. Maqsood Tabish, and Akhtar Hussain, expressed their support for strengthening trade ties between Pakistan and Belarus.

It is evident from this meeting that both countries are committed to fostering strong economic relations, and the visit of President Lukashenko to Pakistan is expected to pave the way for increased trade and cooperation.
