Caretaker govt, COAS Munir working to attract investment in Pakistan: President Alvi
KARACHI (APP) – President Dr Arif Alvi emphasized on Sunday that the current caretaker federal government, along with Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, is actively seeking foreign investment to enhance the country’s economy through joint-ventures.
President Alvi highlighted the importance of making effective decisions to bring economic stability to the country while addressing the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP)’s Recognition Ceremony. The event was also attended by Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori. President Alvi expressed his belief that the business community has the potential to make Pakistan economically strong.
He acknowledged Pakistan’s tremendous potential and encouraged REAP members to focus on joint-ventures and value-added rice items. President Alvi praised the idea of a ‘Biryani Festival’ as a valuable addition to the rice industry and even extended an invitation for REAP to organize the festival at the President House.
President Alvi highlighted the importance of reviving rice research institutions to better tap into the international market. He expressed support for the establishment of market-oriented institutions through a collaboration between the government and REAP, in response to REAP’s request.
President Alvi emphasized the need to empower women by providing employment opportunities for them to actively participate in the country’s economy. He also stressed the importance of providing quality education to children to help them face the challenges encountered by the country.
Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori, in his address at the ceremony, recognized rice as the country’s second-best export. He expressed disappointment that it has not been officially recognized as an industry yet. Tessori also highlighted the efforts of the COAS in combating economic terrorism in addition to border terrorism, noting the decrease in the value of the dollar.
Tessori mentioned the ongoing action against illegal immigrants in the country and expressed hope that this would lead to improved law and order situation.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Tessori called for international support and condemnation of Israeli brutality.
REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani emphasized the pivotal role of REAP in the country’s economy. He highlighted the significant increase in Pakistani rice exports, from $300 million to $3 billion, and the reputation of Pakistani rice for its quality worldwide.
At the end of the ceremony, President Alvi and Sindh Governor Tessori presented awards and trophies to the top rice exporters.
