Surging Prices of Rice and Pulses
Surge in Prices of Pulses and Rice Burdens Consumers
The prices of pulses and rice have experienced a steep increase in the open market, putting additional strain on the wallets of already burdened consumers. The surge amounts to an additional Rs30 to Rs45 per kg, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to afford these essential food items.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Central Kariyana Merchants Association has called upon the deputy commissioner to promptly schedule an urgent meeting of the District Price Control Committee. The purpose of this meeting would be to reassess and revise the prices of various grocery items, including pulses and rice.
Importance of the Meeting
Initially planned for October, this crucial meeting faced an unfortunate delay of three months. As a result, the Central Kariyana Merchants Association has intensified its efforts to ensure that the meeting takes place without any further delays. One of their main demands is to establish a fixed 10 per cent profit per kg on wholesale prices for all grocery items, including pulses.
Moreover, the association is advocating for the immediate formulation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that outline clear guidelines for determining prices and profits. By implementing these SOPs, they hope to bring a swift resolution to the ongoing dispute and ensure fair pricing practices in the future.
The increase in prices of pulses and rice has caused significant concern among consumers, and it is crucial for the relevant authorities to address this issue promptly. By convening the District Price Control Committee meeting and implementing effective SOPs, it is hoped that the burden on consumers can be alleviated, providing them access to affordable and essential food items.
