The Rawalpindi Divisional Administration Takes Action Against Food Hoarding

The Rawalpindi divisional administration is cracking down on food hoarding during the holy month of Ramazan. In an effort to curb price hikes and ensure an adequate supply of essential items, comprehensive data on food items used in Iftar and Sehri is being collected from wholesale dealers and suppliers. This includes groceries, Iftar items, vegetables, fruits, rice, gram, and pulses.

Both small and large vendors, as well as dealers in the vegetable and fruit markets across the six districts of the Rawalpindi division, have been instructed to provide the necessary information to the deputy commissioner’s office by Saturday. Failure to do so will result in strict consequences.

Crackdown on Food Hoarding

Starting from Sunday, a stringent crackdown will be initiated to ensure compliance. Any excess stock found beyond the data provided by suppliers will be confiscated and auctioned in the open market. Moreover, dealers involved in hoarding will face legal actions, as an FIR will be registered under Section 11 of the Anti-Hoarding Act, 2020.

Those found guilty can face up to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs0.5 million. The administration aims to maintain zero tolerance for profiteering and hoarding during Ramazan, prioritizing the welfare of the community.
