Mixed Trend in Prices of Essential Kitchen Items

Prices of essential kitchen and grocery items have remained high in the retail market, except for vegetables, according to a recent survey conducted by Business Recorder. While there was a slight decrease in the prices of ginger, garlic, green chili, onion, and tomatoes, the prices of other vegetables remained unchanged.

Ginger is now available at Rs700-800/kg, compared to its previous price of Rs1000, while garlic is being sold at Rs600/kg and green chili at Rs400/kg. Tomatoes, on the other hand, are now available at Rs100/kg, down from Rs150-200/kg.

In terms of other vegetables, peas are being sold at Rs200, capsicum at Rs200/kg, ladyfinger at Rs150/kg, curry at Rs60/kg, Kachalu at Rs150-200/kg, turnip at Rs80-100/kg, eggplant (brinjal) at Rs100/kg, Zucchini (tori) at Rs80-100/kg, tinda at Rs100/kg, and lemon at Rs200/kg.

Other vegetables, such as Arvi, Karela (bitter gourd), green chili, cabbage, red-colored potatoes, and white-colored potatoes, are also available at varying prices in the retail market.

The price of flour has remained unchanged, with a 20-kg sac being sold at Rs1700 and an 80-kg sac available at Rs8000.

There has been a mixed trend in the prices of pulses in the retail market. Good quality rice (sela) is available at Rs340/kg, while low quality rice is available at Rs320/kg. Tota rice, on the other hand, is being sold at Rs180-200/kg.

The survey also revealed that dal mash is available at Rs600/kg, dal masoor at Rs320/kg, dal chilka (black) at Rs320/kg, dal chilka (green) at Rs260/kg, moonge at Rs280/kg, dhoti dal at Rs300/kg, dal Channa at Rs280/kg, white lobiya at Rs450/kg, red bean at Rs440/kg, Gram flour (besan) at Rs280/kg, big-size white Channa at Rs360/kg, and small-size white channa at Rs300/kg.

Sugar is priced at Rs150/kg in the retail market, while the prices of cooking oil/ghee remained stable.

Confectionery items, beverages, baby milk, milk powder, and diapers are also priced high in the local market.

The survey also revealed that fruit prices remain on the higher side. Apples are available at Rs200-250/kg, bananas at Rs100-150 and Rs200/dozen, strawberries at Rs200-300/kg, melons at Rs100-120/kg, and watermelons at Rs70/kg.

Furthermore, all brands and qualities of beverages are priced high in the local market, with black tea being sold at Rs1400-1500/kg.
