**Southern Parts of Sindh, Including Karachi, Expected to Receive “More Than Usual” Monsoon Rains**

According to weather experts, the southern parts of Sindh, including Karachi, are expected to receive “more than usual” monsoon rains this year. The monsoon season is likely to start from the first week of July and will be accompanied by a medium-level pressure over the Arabian Sea, which is forecasted to be created on June 30.

The arrival of the monsoon season in Karachi is predicted to occur in early July, with the first spell of downpour expected in the port city during the first week of the month. Weather analysts have also forecasted “more than usual rains” in southern areas of Sindh, including Karachi, from June 27 to July 4.

However, it is important to note that this is a long-term forecast, subject to change in the future. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that most plain areas of the country can expect very hot and dry weather during the daytime. However, gusty winds, windstorms, and isolated rain-thunderstorms are expected in northeast Punjab, Islamabad, Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening and night.

In contrast, India is likely to experience below-normal rainfall in June, which has raised concerns for the agricultural sector of the country. The state-run India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that India is most likely to receive below-normal rains, amounting to less than 92% of the long-period average rainfall. Since June 1, India has already received 20% less rainfall than normal, with most regions, except a few southern states, experiencing shortfalls. Some northwestern states have also been affected by heat waves.

The monsoon is crucial for India’s economy, as it provides nearly 70% of the rain needed to water farms and refill reservoirs and aquifers. This slow progress in rainfall has implications for farming and the overall economic growth of Asia’s third-largest economy.
