Government allocates 858.7 tonnes of rice for VGF program in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, June 11, 2024 (BSS) – In an effort to support the vulnerable and distressed families in Manikganj district, the government has allocated a total of 858.70 tonnes of rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme. This initiative aims to provide assistance to those in need during the holy festival of Eid-ul-Azha.

A total of 85,870 families across different regions of the district are set to benefit from this allocation. The distribution is divided as follows: 14,628 families in Manikganj Sadar, 16,285 families in Singair, 14,582 families in Daulatpur, 8,286 families in Saturia, 9,956 families in Shibalaya, 7,468 families in Harirampur, 6,963 families in Ghior upazila, 4,621 families in Manikganj Municipality, and 3,081 families in Singair Municipality.

According to the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO, incharge) Md Shamsuzzaman Asif, each family will receive 10 kgs of rice. The distribution process is being carried out meticulously, with the ward level committees creating a list of eligible families. This list has been approved by the upazila authorities, ensuring a fair and transparent distribution system.

The authorities have set a deadline to complete the distribution before the commencement of the holy Eid, allowing the families to celebrate the festival with ease and joy.

This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to providing support and assistance to those in need, especially during religious festivals. By ensuring the distribution of essential food items like rice, the government aims to alleviate the burden on vulnerable families and enable them to partake in the festivities with dignity.
