Jamaat-i-Islami Calls for Protest to Support Farmers

The Emir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has announced a protest rally in Lahore on May 16, expressing solidarity with farmers who are already protesting the government’s failure to procure the fresh crop of wheat in Pakistan. The JI chief cautioned the Punjab government against blocking the rally, holding them responsible for any untoward incidents at the Mall Road, Lahore.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stated, “We are organizing a peaceful rally, along with farmers, in Lahore on May 16. If the government attempts to hinder our progress, the provincial government will be held accountable for any unfavorable situations that may arise. The federal government should address the farmers’ concerns promptly to avoid further protests.”

The JI leader criticized the last caretaker government’s decision to import wheat despite expectations of a bumper crop in the country. He urged the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to refrain from violent protests related to wheat flour and electricity, emphasizing that both the government and the people should not give India an opportunity to exploit the situation.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also commented on the recent statement made by former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar regarding the disclosure of facts about Form 47, the result of the recent general elections. He called for Mr. Kakar to be taken into protective custody and investigated about his statement.

Referring to the prevention of a pro-Palestinian rally by JI, the Islamabad police stopped demonstrators from marching towards the US Embassy, where they planned to stage a sit-in protesting Israel’s genocide of Palestinian people in Gaza.
