Syrian Universities and UAF collaborate on agriculture and livestock improvement
FAISALABAD – Strengthening ties between Syrian and Pakistani universities in the field of agriculture and academic exchange programs was discussed during a meeting between the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and the Syrian Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research. Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Rami Waheed led the Syrian delegation and expressed the Syrian government’s focus on agricultural development. Both parties agreed that collaboration between universities and research institutions would be beneficial for both countries.
Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Rami Waheed recognized the international reputation of UAF as one of the best agricultural universities. He emphasized the importance of not only research collaboration but also the exchange of students and faculty members between UAF and Syrian universities.
UAF Vice Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan highlighted Pakistan’s favorable climate with four distinct seasons, making it suitable for various agricultural commodities and fruits. He mentioned that Pakistan is self-sufficient in major commodities like wheat, sugarcane, rice, and maize. UAF currently hosts students from more than 15 countries, further emphasizing its global appeal.
The collaboration with Syrian institutions aims to mutually benefit from each other’s experiences in overcoming common challenges and excelling in the field of agriculture.
The meeting was attended by various dignitaries, including Director Information Technology of the Ministry of Higher Education, Syria Dr. Manal Sulaiman, Syrian Director Scientific Research Dr. Yasser Saeed, Syrian Director International Co-Operation Dr. Adil Mahfouz, and representatives from the Pakistani Embassy and Ministry of Education. UAF officials and faculty members were also present, highlighting the university’s commitment to fostering international partnerships.
