Punjab unveils Ramadan relief packages for BISP families
The Punjab government is all set to launch a unique initiative for the holy month of Ramadan, aimed at helping those enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). According to insiders, this initiative will introduce Ramadan Hampers that will be procured from local wholesale markets and filled with essential items.
The program aims to reach around 65,000 to 70,000 families with a special Eid package. This package, worth Rs 3,630, will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries at no cost. It will include 10 kg of flour, 2 kg of sugar, and 2 kg of basin, addressing the basic needs of households. The package will also contain 2 kg of rice and 2 kg of ghee, which will enhance the recipients’ dietary options.
Efficient delivery logistics have been arranged to ensure smooth home delivery of the Eid packages. The nominal cost for the bags used in the delivery will be Rs. 435.
To provide transparency and fair pricing, the initiative has set fixed prices for individual food items. Flour will be priced at Rs135, sugar at Rs140, basin at Rs230, ghee at Rs460, rice at Rs280 per kilogram, and plastic bags at Rs60 each.
A preliminary budget of Rs. 9 billion has been allocated to ensure the successful distribution of ration packages to deserving individuals as part of this extensive support program.
This initiative will not only help the needy families during Ramadan but also provide a sense of inclusion and support within the community. It showcases the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens during this holy month.
