PTA Implements Stricter Measures, Detains 3 for Illegally Distributing Mobile SIMs
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have joined forces to crack down on illegal SIM card registrations in Rawalpindi, Hasan Abdal, and Wah. These areas were identified as hotspots for fraudulent SIM activity.
During the operation, a total of three raids were conducted, targeting franchisees of a major mobile phone company and an illegal SIM registration vendor. It was discovered that these sale channels were involved in the illegal issuance of SIM cards.
As a result of the raids, a significant amount of evidence was seized. This included 3,550 pre-active SIM cards, three Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, 748 silicon thumbs, 11,000 digital fingerprints, and a printer.
Furthermore, the FIA arrested three individuals who were found on the premises. FIRs (First Information Reports) have been lodged against them, and the FIA is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
This operation was initiated based on a complaint filed by PTA, which had received information regarding the illegal issuance of SIM cards through these sales channels. The aim is to prevent the misuse of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) and ensure the safety and security of mobile phone users in Pakistan.
It is important for authorities to take action against such illegal practices to protect the public from potential misuse of SIM cards. The collaboration between PTA and FIA demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the integrity of the telecom sector in Pakistan.
