Exports of Pakistani food items expected to reach $7 billion by year-end, confirms Motiwala
Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, recently visited the Pakistan Pavilion at the Gulf Food Exhibition, held at the Dubai Trade Centre. Motiwala commended the exhibitors for their efforts in promoting exports and took the opportunity to engage with them and learn more about the Pakistani products on display.
One of the key focuses for Pakistan is enhancing the export of food and food-related items. Motiwala stated that this strategic emphasis has already yielded positive results, with the expectation that food exports will surpass $7 billion by the end of the current financial year. This represents a significant increase from the previous $4 billion annual exports in this sector.
Motiwala stressed the importance of boosting exports as a means of achieving economic prosperity, and he expressed TDAP’s commitment to contributing to this goal. He highlighted the exceptional growth in sesame seed exports, which have seen a remarkable increase of 300 to 400% this year. Additionally, Pakistani rice exports are projected to reach $3 billion, compared to the previous $1.5 billion.
During his visit, Motiwala also met with the Chief Organizer of Saudi Food and the Commercial Director of Events Management at the Dubai World Trade Centre. They expressed interest in Pakistani products participating in the upcoming Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Exhibition.
Overall, Pakistan’s participation in the Gulf Food Exhibition provides a platform for showcasing its diverse range of high-quality products. With a focus on enhancing exports and leveraging the potential of the food sector, Pakistan hopes to boost its economic growth and seize new opportunities in international markets.
