The first shipment of equipment for the Million Acres of Green Pakistan Smart Farm Project, which involves Chinese water-saving industry leader Tianjin Dayu Irrigation Group, has been packed and delivered. This batch of intelligent water and fertilizer integrated irrigation equipment will cover a farmland area of 2,000 hectares and will be used for planting and irrigation of various crops including wheat, cotton, tomatoes, and corn in Pakistan. The project aims to promote modern agricultural development, improve agricultural productivity, and meet the food needs of Pakistan’s growing population through the use of advanced technology and modern irrigation systems.

Pakistan’s Commercial Counselor in China, Ghulam Qadir, emphasized the importance of agriculture as Pakistan’s pillar industry and expressed optimism about the positive impact of incorporating advanced technology to increase production and support future food exports. He also highlighted Dayu Group’s achievements in flood prevention, disaster early warning, and rural sewage treatment, expressing interest in close cooperation with Dayu Group in multiple dimensions.

Cui Jing, senior vice president of Dayu Group, mentioned that Pakistani partners are interested in Dayu’s rural sewage treatment project in Tianjin and farmer drinking water safety project in Ningxia. The success of this cooperation could lead to the introduction of these projects in Pakistan, indicating broad prospects for future cooperation.

Pakistan faces chronic water shortages, and a significant portion of its water supply is allocated to cultivating water-intensive crops such as wheat, rice, sugar cane, and cotton. These crops require substantial water resources for their growth cycles. Tianjin, on the other hand, is a water-scarce city that has focused on promoting green manufacturing and implementing water-saving practices throughout its industry chain.

This bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Tianjin aims to transfer mature management experience in agricultural water conservation, safe drinking water for farmers, and rural sewage treatment to Belt and Road partners. By sharing their expertise and technology, they hope to contribute to Pakistan’s agricultural development and address its water scarcity challenges.
