La Nina Weather Pattern Expected in Second Half of 2024, Says US Forecaster

According to a US government weather forecaster, the La Nina weather pattern, known for its cold temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, may emerge in the second half of 2024. This comes after a year of strong El Nino weather conditions. The La Nina pattern typically brings increased precipitation to regions like Australia, Southeast Asia, and India, while causing drier weather in grain and oilseed producing areas in the Americas.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) stated that although forecasts in the spring are less reliable, there is a historical tendency for La Nina to follow strong El Nino events. As for the current El Nino pattern, which brought hot and dry weather to Asia and above-average rainfall in parts of the Americas, it is expected to transition to neutral conditions between April and June 2024.

The CPC’s monthly forecast indicates a 55% chance of La Nina conditions developing between June and August. Rice exporters and suppliers in Pakistan, such as HAS Rice, may need to prepare for potential changes in weather patterns.
