Thai Agriculture Ministry Implements Innovative Policies to Boost Product Management and Distribution

The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has introduced a set of advanced policies aimed at enhancing product management and nationwide distribution. These initiatives are a result of a collaboration between the Ministry and the Department of Internal Trade and Thailand Post. Additionally, efforts are being made to improve rice breeds, establish new farming areas, and maintain a comprehensive fruit directory for both domestic and export markets.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, who also heads the Ministry, highlighted the positive impact of these policies. In the last six months, the prices of several key agricultural products have shown significant increases. Hom Mali and sticky rice prices rose by 12%, tapioca by 49%, oil palm by 9%, rubber by 22%, animal feed corn by 6%, shallots by 27%, and oranges by 57%. Export fruits have also witnessed a surge in prices, with durians reaching 205 baht per kilogram and mangosteens priced at 100 baht/kg.

Phumtham credited the success of these initiatives to the hard work and dedication of government officials, as well as collaboration with private partners. Together, they have focused on enhancing their understanding of the products and implementing modern technology to address existing challenges.

Addressing Agricultural Challenges

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the cassava mosaic disease is one of the most pressing agricultural issues in Thailand. This disease has caused a 20% decline in the country’s tapioca output compared to global demand. To tackle this issue, the Ministry, in partnership with private entities, launched the Smart Farmer project in Nakhon Ratchasima. This project aims to educate both new and existing farmers on effective techniques to prevent the disease and limit its spread.

Conclusion

The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is dedicated to implementing innovative policies that promote efficient product management and distribution. By collaborating with various stakeholders and leveraging modern technology, the Ministry aims to overcome challenges and ensure the growth and success of the agricultural sector.
