Pakistan Aims to Boost Exports to $100 Billion in Next 5 Years, Commerce Minister Says
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce and Interior, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, has expressed the government’s ambition to increase the country’s exports to $100 billion within the next five years. During a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), the minister emphasized the importance of the business community’s active involvement in achieving this target.
According to Dr. Gohar Ejaz, expanding exports is crucial for Pakistan’s economic progress, and the private sector’s role in diversifying exports is pivotal in achieving favorable outcomes for the country’s economy. He also stressed the significance of close collaboration between the government and the business community to expedite the nation’s economic development.
The Federal Minister assured the ICCI delegation of his complete support and cooperation in resolving any obstacles faced by the business community. He emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating a conducive environment for business promotion in the country.
During the meeting, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the ICCI, presented the delegation’s plans for establishing an Expo Centre and a new Industrial Estate in the region. He sought the government’s assistance in realizing these projects. Additionally, Bakhtawari requested the inclusion of ICCI representation in the Export Development Fund and the establishment of a Facilitation Desk of Passport Office at ICCI, along with a dedicated immigration counter for taxpayers at airports.
Faad Waheed, Senior Vice President of ICCI, urged the government to introduce a special package in the upcoming fiscal budget to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and foster growth in relevant sectors.
Pakistan’s efforts to increase exports are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth. By involving the business community and addressing their concerns, the government aims to create a conducive environment for business development and achieve its export goals.
