PSA Denies Client Overcharging Allegations
Pakistan Shipping Association Denies Extra Fees Charged by Shipping Companies
The Pakistan Shipping Association (PSA) has denied reports that shipping companies are charging extra fees to their clients. PSA Chairman Asim Siddiqui stated that the shipping companies are following the fixed tariff and complying with government trade rules. Speaking to journalists, Siddiqui emphasized that the association supports reforms in the maritime trade policy and will engage with all stakeholders to address industry issues.
Siddiqui stressed the importance of the shipping industry for the country’s economic development and dismissed claims of exorbitant charges as false. He explained that while there is competition in the sea trade, shipping companies charge different fees according to the fixed tariff, ensuring fair practices. He also stated that shipping companies cannot afford to charge additional fees as it would affect their future contracts with clients.
In addition, Siddiqui highlighted that the services provided by shipping companies are in accordance with government trade rules, policies, and fixed tariffs. He emphasized that the industry plays a crucial role in Pakistan’s economic growth and refuted any involvement of shipping companies in smuggling activities.
Pakistan’s shipping industry comprises 20 foreign shipping companies that contribute significantly to the country’s economic development. Siddiqui assured that these companies operate within the legal frameworks and comply with regulations.
The PSA chairman’s statement aims to address concerns raised regarding the alleged extra fees charged by shipping companies. By reiterating the adherence to fixed tariffs and government regulations, Siddiqui emphasizes transparency and fair practices within the industry.
