Press Release: Port Qasim Authority Reports Busy Shipping Activity in Karachi

Karachi, January 25, 2024 – Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released its shipping activity report for Thursday, January 25, 2024, providing valuable insights into the bustling maritime operations at one of Pakistan’s key ports.

Shipping Activity at Port Qasim
On January 24, four ships, namely Maersk Cabo Verde, Clemens Schulte, Charade, and Lusail, arrived at the Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal, and Elengy Terminal, respectively. These ships carried Containers, Steel Coil, and LNG, and played a crucial role in facilitating the movement of essential goods and materials.

In the past 24 hours, five additional ships have arrived at the outer-anchorage of Port Qasim, including MSC ADU-V, Encore, Theodora, Sea Elegant, and Nord Anthem. These vessels are set to load and unload a variety of cargoes, including Containers, Rice, Chemicals, and Coal, further contributing to the port’s dynamic shipping landscape.

Cargo Throughput and Departures
A total of nine ships were actively engaged at PQA berths during this period. Four ships, namely Clemens Schulte, Maersk Cabo Verde, IVS Windsor, and Marangas Asclepius, departed the port earlier today. Three more ships, Limra, Charade, and Sea Runner, are expected to set sail on the same day.

The cargo throughput for the last 24 hours reached an impressive 172,616 tonnes, including 145,841 tonnes of imported cargo and 26,775 tonnes of export cargo. The handling of 2,298 containers (979 TEUs for imports and 1,319 TEUs for exports) underscores the port’s vital role in facilitating international trade.

Future Shipping Activity
Currently, six ships are positioned at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim. Sea Elegant, Nord Anthem, MSC ADU-V, Cosco America, APL California, and Maersk Atlanta are anticipated to take berths at EVTL, PIBT, and QICT in the coming days. The arrival of these ships will add to the anticipated shipping activity at the port.
