Australia aims to continue their winning streak in the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test against Pakistan. Following a victorious first Test, Australia is determined to secure another win at the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Historically, Pakistan has struggled in Test matches on Australian soil, never managing to win a Test series in the country. However, one standout moment in their cricketing history occurred during the 1995-96 series under the leadership of captain Wasim Akram.

Entering the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Pakistan was already trailing 2-0. However, they displayed immense determination and resilience. With an excellent knock of 137 by Ijaz Ahmed, Pakistan posted a respectable total of 299 runs in their first innings. Wasim Akram’s exceptional performance, alongside leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, proved to be the turning point as they collectively picked up nine wickets, restricting the hosts to 257.

Despite a modest lead of 42, Pakistan faced challenges in their second innings and managed to score only 204 runs. However, Inzamam-ul-Haq’s crucial innings of 59 played a pivotal role in setting a target of 247 for Australia. Once again, Wasim Akram and Mushtaq Ahmed displayed their brilliance with the ball, taking three wickets each, leading Pakistan to a historic victory by 74 runs. Mushtaq Ahmed received well-deserved recognition as the Player of the Match for his outstanding contribution of nine wickets.

While Pakistan came close to victory on three other occasions, the Australian team managed to turn the tide in their favor. In 1999, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden showcased remarkable centuries to chase down a daunting total of 369 in the fourth innings. Similarly, in 2009-10, Pakistan fell short by only managing 139 runs while chasing 176. The bowlers Nathan Hauritz and Mitchell Johnson played a crucial role in stifling Pakistan, as Hauritz claimed five wickets and Johnson took three.

In 2016, Pakistan narrowly missed out on a victory, falling short by just 39 runs while chasing 489. Asad Shafiq was the standout performer with a brilliant knock of 137, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s overall record in test matches in Australia is as follows: they have played 39 test matches, won four, drawn seven, and lost the rest.
