Port Qasim to Resume Shipping Operations on December 11, 2023
Karachi – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has provided an update on the shipping activities happening on December 11, 2023, showcasing the bustling maritime scene at one of Pakistan’s key ports.
Yesterday, two ships, the Basrah and Chem-road Quest, arrived at the Multi-Purpose Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal, respectively, to load and offload rice and chemicals. In addition, four more ships, namely Stamina SW, Gaschem Warnow, DSI Drammen, and El-Giznur CEBI, arrived at the outer anchorage of the port in the last 24 hours. These vessels will handle a variety of cargoes, including rice, cement, chemicals, and coal.
Currently, there are a total of six ships actively engaged at PQA berths. Notably, the bulk cargo carrier ‘Armonia GR’ has already left the port today, while the Egret Bulker is expected to depart this afternoon.
The total cargo volume for the past 24 hours reached an impressive 54,456 tonnes, consisting of 30,940 tonnes of imported cargo and 23,516 tonnes of export cargo. This involved the handling of 1,087 containers, with 164 TEUs for imports and 923 TEUs for exports, showcasing the diverse range of goods passing through the port.
Looking ahead, there are currently nine ships at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Among them, the New Asoura and DSI Drammen are scheduled for cement and coal loading and offloading, while the ship Kyparissia will handle containers. These vessels are expected to berth at the Multi-Purpose Terminal, Bulk Terminal, and Container Terminal respectively today. Furthermore, the container ship ‘MSC Jemima’ is due to arrive at Port Qasim on Tuesday, further contributing to the dynamic maritime activity.
These shipping activities highlight the strategic importance of Port Qasim as a crucial trading gateway in the region. The diverse range of commodities being handled, including essential goods like rice and chemicals, emphasizes the port’s role in facilitating both imports and exports, making a significant contribution to the national economy.
