Vietnamese ST25 Rice Named Best Rice in the World
BANGKOK – In a recent competition featuring 30 rice varieties from different countries, the ST25 rice variety from Vietnam emerged as the winner and was recognized as the best rice in the world this year, according to Chookiat Ophaswongse, the president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association.
Ophaswongse noted that while Thai rice is highly regarded for its quality, standards, and punctual delivery in previous contests, Thailand did not participate in all rice type categories this year.
The Rice Trader (TRT) report revealed that only three rice varieties, including those from Cambodia, India, and Vietnam, made it to the top three spots.
The ST25 rice variety from Vietnam, developed by a Vietnamese private enterprise, received unanimous acclaim from all chefs, solidifying its position as the best rice in the world.
In the past two years, Thailand’s Hom Mali 105 rice had clinched the title of the world’s best rice. However, in 2022, Cambodia’s Phka Rumduol rice surpassed Hom Mali, seizing the coveted title.
This marks the second consecutive year that Thai rice has failed to secure an award in the global rice competition.
