exports to china increase by 70% and reach $368 million
Pakistan’s export to China experienced a significant surge, reaching US$368 million in October this year, reflecting a remarkable 70% increase compared to the same month last year, as revealed by Commercial Counsellor Ghulam Qadir at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing. This surge is attributed to a boost in exports of key products, including sesame, seafood, rice, and other agricultural items.
Ghulam Qadir credited the impressive export figures to the active participation of over 200 Chinese businessmen in the Food and Agri Expo held in Karachi earlier this year. He emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to obtain positive results, stating, “We facilitated numerous meetings between Chinese businessmen and Pakistani traders, and we must continue this work for more positive outcomes.”
When asked about the potential for further increases in Pakistani exports to China, Qadir revealed plans to initiate meat exports to the Chinese market. He also mentioned efforts to enhance value addition in dairy products, chillies, cherries, and sesame seeds, stating, “We aim to convert sesame seeds into sesame oil and by-products, and progress is being made in this regard.” Qadir expressed hopes for a greater presence of Pakistani players in China through e-commerce and other platforms, particularly in textiles, footwear, toys, agriculture, electronics, light engineering, and consumer products.
With soaring exports to China, Pakistan is capitalizing on the growing demand for its products. The boost in exports of key items such as sesame, seafood, rice, and agricultural products has contributed to this notable increase. The active participation of over 200 Chinese businessmen in the Food and Agri Expo held in Karachi has played a significant role in achieving these impressive export figures.
Commercial Counsellor Ghulam Qadir highlighted the importance of continued efforts to foster positive results. The facilitation of meetings between Chinese businessmen and Pakistani traders has been instrumental in establishing strong business relationships and contributing to the growth of exports. The aim is to further increase exports by exploring new opportunities and expanding into different sectors.
Looking ahead, Pakistan plans to expand its exports to China by introducing meat exports to the Chinese market. The country is also focusing on improving value addition in dairy products, chillies, cherries, and sesame seeds. These efforts aim to transform raw materials into higher value products, thus increasing profitability and competitiveness in the international market.
Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on building a presence in China’s e-commerce and other platforms. Pakistani players are encouraged to explore opportunities in textiles, footwear, toys, agriculture, electronics, light engineering, and consumer products. By tapping into these markets, Pakistan aims to strengthen its economic ties with China and establish a mutually beneficial trade partnership.

With plans to explore new opportunities and enhance value addition, Pakistan’s export industry is poised for further growth and success in the Chinese market. The collaboration between the two countries holds great potential for boosting trade and fostering stronger economic ties.
