Karachi Port Trust Showcases Dynamic Port Activities

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) demonstrated its efficiency and productivity on November 16, 2023, with a flurry of cargo ships arriving and departing. Over the past 24 hours, from 0700 hours onwards, the KPT successfully handled a total of 90,046 tonnes of cargo, including 62,241 tonnes of imports and 27,805 tonnes of exports.

The import cargo breakdown consisted of 9,908 tonnes of Containerized Cargo, 322 tonnes of Bulk Cargo, 901 tonnes of Chickpeas, 7,114 tonnes of DAP, 18,061 tonnes of Wheat, and 25,935 tonnes of Oil & Liquid Cargo. On the export side, the total cargo of 27,805 tonnes comprised 22,143 tonnes of Containerized Cargo, 50 tonnes of Bulk Cargo, and 5,612 tonnes of Cement.

Container Handling

Thursday witnessed the handling of 2,222 containers, with 637 containers for imports and 1,585 for exports. Specifically, there were 313 twenty-foot containers and 162 forty-foot containers loaded for imports, while for exports, there were 620 twenty-foot containers and 224 forty-foot containers. Moreover, 19 twenty-foot containers and 249 forty-foot containers were handled empty during business hours.

Ship Arrivals and Departures

A total of five ships, including Safeen Prime, Maritec, Ts Ningbo, Louise Auerbach, and Ian H, arrived at the Karachi Port Trust, while three ships, namely Songa Breeze, MT Mardan, and Clemens Schulte, also berthed during this period. Furthermore, seven ships, namely Safeen Prime, Minerva Olympia, Gsl Elizabeth, Louise Auerbach, Vancouver, Ian H, and Songa Breeze, sailed off from the Karachi Port Trust.

Port Qasim Authority Witnessed Busy Trade Activity

Simultaneously, the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) was bustling with activity, as twelve ships were engaged over the last 24 hours, with seven ships departing on Thursday morning. The overall cargo throughput at PQA reached 125,367 tonnes, consisting of 70,630 tonnes of imports and 54,737 tonnes of exports. This also included containerized cargo carried in 3,239 containers, with 1,430 TEUs for imports and 1,581 TEUs for exports.

As of now, ten ships are stationed at the Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, with the bulk cargo carrier Lucky River scheduled to berth at MW-1 to load 15,000 tonnes of rice on Thursday, November 16, 2023. These port activities highlight the strong and crucial role of Pakistan’s maritime trade in the global supply chain.
