Sino-Pakistan Agricultural Cooperation Strengthens, Linking Campus to Crop Fields
The 4th Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) Sino-Pak Agricultural Forum took place successfully on November 9-10, 2023. The event was organized by the Institute of Horticultural Science at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), Pakistan. The forum saw the participation of leading scientists and agricultural experts, both in person and online, who delivered over 80 high-quality presentations.
Attendees included representatives from various agricultural universities and institutions such as UAF, PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Huazhong Agriculture University (HZAU), Chinese Academy, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), and Xinjiang Agriculture University.
During the forum, Huazhong Agricultural University from China signed separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Arid Agriculture University, establishing academic collaboration and a student exchange program. As part of these agreements, five students from each country will receive fully funded scholarships and have the opportunity to spend one year at their partner university.
Chinese experts conducted surveys in various fields, including agricultural research, corporate farming, green energy, education, and communication. UAF invited delegates from CAAS to share technology aimed at improving the protein content and health benefits of bread made from a blend of wheat and maize flour.
Building on their collaboration, HZAU and UAF have committed to working together on the eco-friendly use of Black Soldier Fly Larvae for sustainable municipal solid waste management, as well as the biodegradation of rice stubbles to help reduce the smog issue in Pakistan.
Overall, the 4th Belt and Road Initiatives Sino-Pak Agricultural Forum fostered meaningful exchanges between agricultural experts from China and Pakistan, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration in various areas of agriculture.
