Unity Foods Limited, a leading agro-products company, sponsored the 7th Edition of The Future Summit, a 2-day event that brought together experts and thought-leaders to discuss key issues and opportunities in Pakistan. The theme of this year’s event was “The Big Picture.”

Farrukh Amin, the CEO of Unity Foods, delivered the keynote speech and highlighted the numerous opportunities in the agriculture sector for local and foreign investors. Despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and floods, Pakistan’s agricultural sector has great potential due to its large population, extensive irrigation network, and global rankings in various crops. Amin also mentioned the recent success of a 73% surge in agricultural exports, particularly in rice and sesame seeds to China.

Amin provided an overview of the economic contribution of the agricultural sector, emphasizing a projected 126% growth in cotton production that will boost textile exports. He encouraged investors to consider the agricultural sector as a lucrative opportunity and emphasized the growing demand for locally produced food and the potential to reduce imports. Amin expressed optimism for a positive economic turnaround in Pakistan through collective efforts and investments.

During the event, it was highlighted that the demand for food in Pakistan will always remain high due to its large and growing population. Investing in the food and agriculture sector not only meets domestic demand but also creates export opportunities. Amin pointed out the opportunity for investment in crops that yield edible oils to reduce the import of edible oils and save foreign exchange.

Amir Shehzad, the Executive Director of Unity Foods, discussed Sustainability, Climate Change, and Decarbonization as a panelist. He emphasized Unity Foods’ commitment to net-zero and the company’s efforts towards decarbonization. Shehzad urged stakeholders to take a proactive approach in addressing climate change and emphasized the importance of collective actions for a sustainable future.

Unity Foods, through its brand Sunridge, is committed to addressing critical issues like malnutrition and food security. The company has implemented various sustainable initiatives, including farmer education programs, fortification of food products with essential nutrients, and corporate farming to enhance the quality and yield of produce.

The Future Summit featured speakers from various sectors, including the caretaker Federal Minister for Energy, Power & Petroleum. The first day of sessions covered topics such as Sustainability, Climate Change & Decarbonisation, Leadership & Strategy in the Age of Disruption, and Forging the Future.
