Dr Kausar aims to boost agricultural exports to Uzbekistan
in its economic growth. He highlighted the potential for increased trade in agricultural goods between the two countries, particularly in rice, potato, kinnow, fresh mango, sesame seeds, dried chilies, and bamboo sticks.
To support this, the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) will provide necessary facilitations under the Pakistan Plant Quarantine Rules 2019. This will ensure smooth trade and adherence to quarantine regulations for the agricultural products being exported. The minister emphasized the importance of further enhancing bilateral trade and strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
In the meeting, the minister also mentioned that in the past, Pakistan has successfully exported animal products and by-products to Uzbekistan. In 2022-23 alone, the exports were valued at R. 14,057 million and included meat and meat products, as well as poultry eggs. Pakistan’s rich genetic resources in goats were highlighted, with the country being the third-largest goat-producing country globally. There are around 25 distinct goat breeds in Pakistan, with an estimated population of 87.4 million, each with its unique characteristics and attributes.
The caretake federal minister emphasized the importance of regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in which both Pakistan and Uzbekistan are members. He acknowledged Uzbekistan’s diverse economy, which includes agriculture, natural resources, and manufacturing as key sectors of growth. With the agricultural sector being a significant part of both countries’ economies, there is immense potential for increased trade and collaboration in this area.
