Enhancing Trade Relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan

Ambassador of Pakistan to Azerbaijan, Bilal Hayee, recently visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional office in Lahore. During his visit, he met with President of FPCCI, Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, to discuss various aspects of cooperation between the two countries. The meeting focused on enhancing trade, investment, technology exchange, and business delegation exchanges.

Building Stronger Business Connections

President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh emphasized the significance of Business-to-Business (B2B) and People-to-People (P2P) linkages in fostering bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He mentioned that Pakistan can offer its expertise in textiles, fruits, rice, surgical goods, pharmaceuticals, and IT at competitive rates. This presents a valuable opportunity for Azerbaijan to benefit from these sectors.

Strengthening Trade Ties

Although Azerbaijan and Pakistan share excellent political relations, their trade and economic relations have room for improvement. President Sheikh highlighted the need to focus on promoting trade ties between the two countries in order to achieve highly beneficial results for both economies.

Abolishing Duties for Rice Export

Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, the Regional Chairman of FPCCI, thanked the Azerbaijan government for abolishing duties on Pakistani rice, which facilitates the export of this commodity to Azerbaijan. This decision opens up the Azerbaijani market as a large consumer of Pakistani rice. It also creates opportunities for Pakistani exporters to expand their presence in Azerbaijan, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, where there is high demand.

Exploring Areas of Cooperation

Ambassador Bilal Hayee identified several potential areas of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. These include agriculture, industry, tourism, mining, and hospitality. Additionally, he emphasized the immense potential of Pakistani pharmaceutical companies in the Azerbaijani market.
