Patanjali to send 20 MT of non-basmati rice to Nepal to aid earthquake victims
The government has granted a special exemption to Patanjali Ayurved, allowing them to export 20 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Nepal as a donation for earthquake victims. This comes after the government banned exports of non-basmati white rice in an effort to boost domestic supply. However, certain countries can still request permission to export for their food security needs.
The directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) stated in a notification that Patanjali Ayurved has been given a one-time exemption to export the rice to Nepal. The rice in question is semi-milled or wholly milled rice, whether polished or glazed.
According to a previous notification issued by the DGFT in October, the government approved exports of 10,34,800 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to seven countries, including Nepal, Cameroon, and Malaysia. Nepal’s share in this export was 95,000 tonnes.
Nepal is an important market for Patanjali Ayurved, and this donation will provide much-needed relief to the earthquake-stricken country. The recent earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, caused significant damage to properties and claimed many lives.
India has taken the initiative to dispatch emergency relief materials to the affected districts in Nepal, becoming the first country to do so.
Overall, this exemption allows Patanjali Ayurved to contribute to the relief efforts in Nepal by providing non-basmati white rice. This gesture will aid the country in its recovery from the devastating earthquake.
