Justice (Retired) Hussain Sworn in as Caretaker Chief Minister of KP in Pakistan
**Peshawar’s Justice (retd.) Arshad Hussain Sworn in as Interim Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province**
In a ceremony held in Peshawar, Justice (retd.) Arshad Hussain has been sworn in as the interim chief minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This appointment comes after the unfortunate passing of caretaker chief minister Muhammad Azam Khan. The oath was administered by Governor Haji Ghulam Ali.
Justice Hussain, who previously served as the law minister in the interim provincial cabinet, brings years of experience to his new role. He has also served as the chief justice of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit Baltistan.
His appointment was finalized at a meeting convened by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ali, where the leader of the house, former chief minister Mehmud Khan, and the ex-leader of Opposition of the dissolved assembly Akram Khan Durrani were invited to propose a consensus candidate. Following Durrani’s proposal and Khan’s support, Hussain’s name was approved by the governor.
The position of interim chief minister became vacant after the previous chief minister passed away due to a heart problem. This development comes as Pakistan prepares for fair and transparent general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.
