Pak-China Form Alliance Against Soil Heavy Metal Pollution
Chinese Experts Visit Pakistan to Address Heavy Metal Pollution in Rice Fields
A delegation of Chinese experts from prestigious institutions including the Zhejiang Institute of Geosciences, Zhejiang University, and Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences recently visited Pakistan. Their objective was to promote a joint research project between Pakistan and China on heavy metal tracing in cadmium-polluted rice fields and rice safety production technology. This project aims to tackle the issue of heavy metal pollution in agricultural soil with the help of China’s research findings and remediation experience. The goal is to reduce pollution sources and control associated risks.
To further this objective, the experts plan to introduce innovative products such as soil conditioners and foliar inhibitors to Pakistan. These products are expected to play a crucial role in improving the quality of soil and ensuring rice safety. The delegation engaged in productive discussions and exchanges with prominent Pakistani institutions, including the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and various universities.
One highlight of their visit was an academic seminar on the prevention and control of soil heavy metals. During the seminar, Dr. Lu Xinzhe from the Zhejiang Institute of Geosciences delivered a presentation on the sources and risk assessment of soil heavy metals. This seminar served as a platform for knowledge exchange and data collection, strengthening the implementation of the joint research project.
The visit marks a significant step towards achieving the project’s overarching goals. It aims to improve soil quality, enhance rice safety, and promote the application of relevant technologies and products in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. By leveraging China’s expertise, Pakistan can effectively tackle the issue of heavy metal pollution in rice fields and ensure the safety of its rice production.
