Pak-China Partnership Targets Heavy Metal Pollution in Soil – China Economic Net
A Chinese delegation consisting of experts from the Zhejiang Institute of Geosciences, Zhejiang University, and Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences recently visited Pakistan from October 10th to 17th. The purpose of the visit was to promote a joint research project between Pakistan and China, focusing on heavy metal tracing in cadmium-polluted rice fields and rice safety production technology.
The project aims to address the issue of heavy metal pollution in agricultural soil by incorporating China’s research findings and remediation experience to reduce pollution sources and control associated risks. In addition, innovative products such as soil conditioners and foliar inhibitors will also be introduced to Pakistan as part of the project.
During their visit, the Chinese delegation engaged in discussions and exchanges with key Pakistani institutions, including the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and various universities. They also participated in an academic seminar on the prevention and control of soil heavy metals. At the seminar, Dr. Lu Xinzhe from the Zhejiang Institute of Geosciences delivered a presentation on the sources and risk assessment of soil heavy metals.
This visit has greatly contributed to the implementation of the joint research project between Pakistan and China. It has facilitated knowledge exchange and data collection, marking a significant step towards achieving the project’s goals of improving soil quality, enhancing rice safety, and promoting the application of relevant technologies and products in Pakistan.
