Pakistan’s Exports Surge by 25.54% to Cross Rs 2 Trillion Mark

Exports from Pakistan Increase by 25.54% in First Quarter of Current Fiscal Year
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reported that exports from Pakistan in rupee terms have experienced a significant increase of 25.54% during the first quarter (Q1) of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period last year. The provisional data released by PBS shows that exports from July to September 2023 reached Rs.2,013,533 million, whereas it was Rs.1,603,869 million during the corresponding period in the previous year.
In September 2023, exports increased by 31.27% year-on-year, totaling Rs.737,295 million compared to Rs.561,643 million in September 2022. Additionally, there was a 6.06% month-on-month increase in exports, reaching Rs.695,136 million in August 2023.
During August and September 2023, the main commodities exported were knitwear, readymade garments, bed wear, cotton cloth, oil seeds, nuts and kernels, cotton yarn, rice others, towels, rice basmati, and madeup articles excluding towels and bedwear.
On the other hand, imports into Pakistan during the first quarter of the current fiscal year registered a 2.45% decrease, amounting to Rs.3,560,763 million compared to Rs.3,650,269 million in the same period last year. In September 2023, imports declined by 2.52% year-on-year, totaling Rs.1,189,167 million. However, there was a 10.62% month-on-month increase in imports, reaching Rs.1,330,458 million in August 2023.
The main commodities imported in September 2023 were petroleum products, petroleum crude, natural gas (liquefied), palm oil, plastic materials, electric machinery & apparatus, iron & steel, mobile phones, iron & steel scrap, and pulses/leguminous vegetables.
Overall, this data reflects positive growth in exports for Pakistan, which can contribute to the strengthening of the country’s economy.
