Kampong Thom farmers increase cultivation of rice crops
Farmers in Kampong Thom are expecting an increase of crop yield compared to the previous year, as they increase the amount of land cultivated.
The Director of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Kampong Thom, Pen Vanrith, reported on the morning of December 6, that the farmers in the province had cultivated 54,214 hectares of rice paddies for the planting of dry season rice crops. That number amounts to 135.54 percent of the original plan of cultivating 40,000 hectares of land for the planting of rice.
The Director continued that this is an increase of 12,576 hectares from the same period last year. Director Vanrith also reported that a total of 230 hectares of farm lands in Sangkat O’Kanthor, Stung Sen City were damaged by the floods. Flood waters also completely ravaged 85 hectares of land, but they are now restored.
